I've been changing oil for a few people in my small town and storing the used oil in plastic drums.Well, now I have 100 gallons of used oil.Does anyone know if there are recycling centers that will take this much at one time?I live in ne Arkansas and any ideas would be great.
what you need is a waste oil burner then you could heat your shop/garage for free! There are a lot of people here in northern IN that have started using waste oil burners, and it works really well
Yes, a "clean Burn" amazing how a unit burning waste oil can burn so clean and efficent, I would like one but would have to start changing semi trucks oil to keep I think
A guy at work says he made one that burned drain oil out of 2 barrels and it burned real clean no soot or anything, sounds shday to me but whatever
Most big autoparts stores will accept drain oil, but usually in smaller quantities. A lot of dumps will have an oil recycling center.
I hadn't thought about using a waste oil burner. Wouldn't be a bad idea where I live for winter use. How much oil do they burn and can they heat a 16x12x12 shop? I only change oil for three cars and garden engines, so in a year I only gather about 5-6 gallons of oil. I suspect this is too little to be useful with a burner, but if it would work for the occasional use, I might do it.
motorhead, check your local yellow pages for waste oil recyclers. Sometimes they will give you a few cents a gallon for it as long as it's not contaminated with solvent or gasoline.
Hey guys thanks for the responses. This may sound a little strange but the reason I started saving the oil a few years ago was because of the government.I had seen on a news report that there were laws about to be enacted in some states that required you to bring about the same amount of oil you were going to buy at the parts stores. This was to make people keep their rides in better running condition and limit people pouring it onto the ground. They were talking of charging $5 a quart for every one not returned. It's been along time since I heard any of this so maybe it never passed and has been forgotten.
There are many differnt sizes of waste oil heaters, and I'm sure you could heat that size of garage with one,but it would probably take more than 5-6 gallons,at least if you used it very much.
