My brother lives in Norway, where he bought a new Ford Expedition (2001) a few years ago with an in dash 6 CD changer and radio. Recently, the radio blacked out (display went black), and stayed like that for a couple of days, then came back to life. However, the radio did not function as before.
In Norway, radio channels can be found at both even and odd frequency numbers, e.g. 87.7, 87.8, 87.9 ... and the radio used to search on both sets of frequencies or in increments of 0.1.
After the radio came back to life, it did only search on odd frequency numbers, e.g. 87.7, 87.9, 88.1 ... which is the default behaviour for the radio in the US.
My brother has in vain asked the dealer for help, they don't know what is wrong or how to fix it. They say he must buy a new radio through them for $3,500 if he wants the problem fixed. (Yes, $3,500, not $350)
I believe the radio can be fixed without paying $3,500., but how. Is there a way to re-program the radio?
