Its been about a year since I bought my 84f150. Its had a few mods:larger holly 2barrle cab, both convertors cut off, larger 3inch pipe with a better flowing muffler, and holly breather with foam filter. So i got the power up where I want it. Now it seems my trany [overdrive auto] just dont seem to shift in the right spots to make good use of it.Yes I like milage and convenace of the trany, but is there a way to give it a better powerband.
Transgo makes a shift kit that allows you to adjust the shift points. Not a real easy install for someone who doesn't work on auto trans becaause it requires some drilling in the valve body area but they doinclude an instruction video.
Ive done alittle tans work in the past, so I might give it a try.Has anyone put one of these kits in? If so how hard is the job for a nonpro. And what is the price range of the kit.
Transgo kits for an AOD cost between $70 and $120 depending on where you buy.
The kits can be installed by a non pro but it is not easy and not without danger to the trans. Some non pros have installed the kit and are happy with the result and others have installed the kit and their trans wouldn't shift anymore and they ended up at the trans shop. With these kits you are nor only enlarging holes in the seperator plate but also drilling new fluid passages to reroute the fluid to elliminate the clutchpack overlap between gears. The AOD doesn't release the clutchpack for one gear until the next clutchpack is engaging causing overlap between shifts thus stopping the harsh shifts from older trans like the c4 c6 fmx.
