I am so lucky!!!!!!!
I have a 1995 Ford F3-50 Crew Cab 4x4 with 35" tires:
The spindle (or what ever you call it) that comes out of my steering box that the pitman arm connects to sheared right in half the other day while I was driving and I had NO STEERING.
I live off a narrow and windy highway that I drive fast on. This happened when I reached my street. I stopped, waited for the on-coming traffic to clear, then started my left turn onto my street when it happen and I went straight into a ditch along side the road.
I am so glad this did not happen while on the hwy driving. I could have had a head-on collision.
After looking at it, the spindle is a little more than an inch thick and there was clean metal (the break) about the size of a dime. The rest was dirty so this tells me it was cracked 3/4 of the way through for a while.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
Do you think it is a defect in the part?
Thanks,
Scott Moore
