Well dang-nab-it-anyways! how the hell have you proud PSD owners been doing? i haven't been on in a good 2 to 3 months and the ol PSD is havin its days. i threw in a new 3" downpipe and what a diffrence! i really like the diffrence in exhaust sound, alot smoother soundin. my neighbors hate it tho! i also have recently purchased my pyro, trnas, and boost gauges for the ol' girl but i am in the process of throwing them in as soon as i have the ol' PSD towed to a tranny shop as the rig hit 109,900 she crapped out a vital organ.........the wothless hunk of crap e40d tranny! i have a few questions as to what might be goin on in side the tranny case. so help me out as much as possible, alright heres the scenario, she idles fine, when i put her in reverse she backs up without a problem, its when i put her into drive,2nd,1st, there is nothing. she just sits there and idles. the u-joints are fine and there is no leak out of the tranny case or pan. when the tranny went out i heard a loud pop and it felt almost like breakin a rear axle u-joint but that isnt the case and i dunno what is. so give me a hand with any advice and what modifications do i have made to the tranny before it goes back in the truck? thanks for your help
Are you doing the work yourself or having the tranny shop do it? Wonder if you broke off a gear on the forward side of the tranny. I'd have the tranny shop build it up, I don't think anyone has ever had a tranny that was built too strong, and it'll definitely be worth it.
yeah im not fiddlin with that thing. i had it takin in to a buddies tranny shop thats local. He figured that he'd have it apart and diagnosed by tomorrow afternoon. he said he'll let me know what went wrong. he also said that when he rebuilds the e40d trannies that are stacked behind the PSD's he throws HD convertors, coolers, filters, valve bodies, just about anything and everything he can at 'em without going over board on budget. he quoted me anywhere from 2000 to 2800 bucks and for basically the same tranny from a local diesel performance shop it would have been 4000 bucks so im gettin the same tranny the diesel shop was gonna get but for almost half the price. i feel i've made out ok. cant wait to get her back and feel the diffrence in power, no more convertor slipping between shift points, just nice firm no slip shifts is what i'll have
Sounds good. I'm waiting for my money tree to start growing this spring, then I think I'll see if I can't have my tranny rebuilt, before it blows. I think having a heavy duty torque converter will make a world of difference by itself, then along with everything else, should be a good tranny.
i looked at brians trannies and they seem to be a sweet **** set-up but i didnt fell comfortable letting some delivery guy take care of my 3200 dollar investment half way across the country. i got her back last friday, man oh man she shifts so dang hard that it shakes my center console! i love it. i saw the aftermath of the stock tranny and it wasnt good, basically the pan was full of shavings that once used to be splines in the gears, the torque convertor was warped and the valve body was seized together. so all in all it wasnt to good. anyway i had them throw in a bigger tranny cooler. they put in the biggest tru-cool cooler they had, its rated at 28,000lbs i think, it works dam good. the only thing i dont like is that it seems to have takin away alot of power from the engine to spin that new tranny unit, is this normal? will it always be like this or is it just one of those it will be normal after you break it in type deals? thanks for the help
Sounds like you blew the planetary gear in your transmission make sure your buddy puts a new heavy duty one in and all the updates and a heavy duty TC.
