there are many aeros with this type of problem, most can be put down to electrical or fuel problems. My own van had a problem like yours I changed the fuel filter a few times and then dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump, still I had the problem so I tested the fuel pressure (should have done this before I replaced the fuel pump) it was fine. To cut a long storey short I eventually found a bad wiring connection on one of the two big block connectors just above the engine, I cleaned up all the connections in both blocks sprayed them with wd40 and put in some dielectric grease and touch wood have not had any more problems.
A couple of sudgestions, first off, do you have a timing light, if so when the van won't start, hook it up the any lead adn see if it shows a spark, next is probably what you don't want to hear, check the plugs, they could be fouling on short rund, why? well that is where I'm heading, it does sound like flodding, like the cold start injector is leaking, or possible a vacum leak (well thats impossible as you can't leak a vacum), I mean an air leak. The condition of the plugs will tell you whats going on mixture wise, and the timing light will tell you if there's a pulse being sent down the wires.
Thanks all for the good suggestions.
Since I only drive on the weekends, I will have to wait till then to do further diagnostics.
If and when the problem is resolved, I will let you know what the gremlin was.
