Okay, did a search and didn't come up with anything tangentical to my problem. I did learn a few things so that is good. Here is the problem: 1989 F-150 with 300 I6 4spd (T-18) 120K miles. The tranny won't go into first gear without putting it into second. Even then, sometimes it still won't go into first so I "creep" it forward in second and then it will engage. I thought it was the clutch, I knew it needed replacing but I drove it until the clutch went. Replaced the clutch. Still does it. Doesn't matter if it is warm\cold. Am I losing a sychros?
Second question: Power steering pump. Do these have a place where they normally leak? I am having a hard time determining the leak place. I have been using the Lucas fluid and that has slowed the leak. It appears that it may be leaking from the hose fittings, but it is hard to tell.
Could be your clutch hydraulics. If they are not providing the right pressure the clutch may slip. Inspect clutch master and slave cylinder for leaking. Also, check under dash at pedal assembly, I've seen master cylinders leak through the firewall as well.
