I have an 84 f-250 getting no gas flow. I changed the pump, the lines don't appear to be pinched or frozen and I have about quarter tank of gas. help me please.
What is the engine? Was it an electric or mechanical fuel pump? Could be junk in the tank plugging the pickup, or an internally collapsed line. Are you sure it's got gas in it, and it's not sitting at an angle where the gas is away from the pickup?
Its a carbarated 302 with machanical fuel pump. The truck is sitting pretty level and the gauge reads a little less than a quarter. Ill check the internal lines and pickup, thanks.
the truck is a 1984 f-250 I found a contraption on the frame which the front and rear tank lines both run into before going to the main fuel pump on the block. Is this contraption on the frame a second smaller fuel pump? and is it something I can pick up at any parts store?
That's your tank selector valve. That may be a cause. The first thing I would do though is put five gallons into your selected tank and see if it picks it up. If it is just that the pickup can't reach the fuel, then it will take a while to start once you put more gas in.
I had this problem last week when i dropped in the 302 new rebuilt motor. I had blown out the gasline with air to make sure it was clean then i couldn't get gas back to the carb so i disconnected the rubber line from the fuel pump and sucked on it to see if i could get the gas to flow from the tank to the pump. It worked so you could try to get under there and try to siphon some and see if gas is even getting from the tank to the fuel pump for it to pump it. This was just my experience last week. I hope you get it fixed.
Might as well replace the fuel filter while you're at it. Take the fuel line off the carb and put the loose end in a quart jar and have someone spin the engine over and see if you are getting gas. If you aren't, you have a problem between the jar and the tank. I don't know if you have the filter that screws into the carb body or if you have an inline one, or both, but any could be clogged up.
You stated that you changed the pump. Was that in response to the problem you have now and changing it didn't solve the problem?
