I'm rebuilding a 49-F3 Marmon and would appreciate feedback on installing a pointless system. I am keeping this as original as possible but...
Many thanks.

How about installing a set old diesel gages for exhaust gas temperature and boost that aren't hooked up to anything? Or a set of dash lights that just come on for no reason? Those would be pointless.
Sorry, just can't resist a straight line like that.
There are many good "breakerless" systems out there. My truck came with a Crane system on it hooked to the stock (351C) distributor. I changed over to a Mallory Magnetic Pulse distributor. Really like it.
I understand that the Pertronics modules install inside the stock distributor. That would give you the power of an electronic ignition and the look of stock. They seem to have sets for any distributor. Check them out.
Randy Jack is right, it's hard to pass up a good straight line like that: _____________________________________________, how's that?
I have the Pertronix units in my 54 f100 (289) and my 55 Fairlane (272). They are easy to install, require no special tools and only cost about $75. They even make them for 6-volt positive ground systems! John
I have to agree with my buddies here. I have the Mallory dual point distributor on mine. Never ran smooth and the parts costs a fortune not to mention I can't tell you how many times I replaced the condenser at $5 a shot. It was cheaper to buy a new distributor. I purchased the Pertronix conversion unit which cost about $70. Two wires and screw in the unit. Same distributor cap and distributor. Started right up and looks like I'm still running the dual point. I love the pertronix unit. I also installed one in my 66 Mustang original distributor. Haven't had any problems yet. What's nice about the pertronix unit, is you can still use your original distributor. (providing it's in good shape)
