I've tried to follow the different posts here on building up a brute 400. I've got the aussie heads, 650 Holley and dual plane intake. I bought a stock distributor from E-bay and fired it up. What a dog.. No power on take off !!! advance is up around 30 degrees or so, 4.10 gears, 33" mudders, C6 tranny, Np203 Xfer case. She's got good power around 35 MPH. I know the carb is not even close, but I need an idea of what the advance curve should be. Any suggestions? The cam was picked by a good engine rebuilder and supposed to have tons of torque at low RPMs.

There's more to putting the right parts in and firing it up to get power out of an engine. You have to tune it also, and it can be hard to find the right combo. But i think you just figured that out.

Whatever works best for your application.
"Advance is up around 30 degrees"
Unhook the vac advance.
Check timing at idle and at total advance, what RPM is the total at?
Your "no power on takeoff" could be caused by the carb also.
