Been around cars of all types for a long time and I think my 1993 F150 extra cab 5.0 has a clogged cat. It's loosing power and the emission light has been coming on. It feels like it's being held back and the exhaut not has changed slightly. It's got 92,000 and the O2 sensor has been replaced at 68k?
Got any good suggetions about a new cat? I've bought a hi flow cat from Catco, but I'm always looking to save money or get advice.
The guy who owned it before me took very good care of it and garaged it. He was **** as hell about it and told me he used this truck to build his own house. It's almost hard to belive it was used to haul anything!
Wow, that is a VERY well looking truck. By Emmission Light, do you mean the Check Engine? There is a way you can pull codes at http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=13. It could be something else. Odd that a well maintained truck could have a clogged cat.
btw, what is that chrome looking piece under the door handle?
Thanks man! I couldn't pass it up when I saw it this past spring. The guy didn't have anyone come and look at it for over a month! He had it listed for high book value, but it was worth it.
That is a key protector the former owner put on around the door lock.
I'll check out that link too, but I have this nagging feeling it's clogged up.
WOW, I clicked on your link and thought I had been forwarded to my own gallery. Nice truck. I bought mine about 5 months ago.
I assume you have about the same truck? I really like nice old trucks and being that my wife is a stay at home Mom I needed a good used one and I got it.
At first it took a while to get used to, but now it's like an extension of my bod.
Drop the pipes loose from the exhaust manifolds wire them up and and go drive it If it runs a whole lot better then indeed it is clogged cat. The last time I saw this was about a year ago on a Dodge truck it got to the point that it would not run over 40 miles an hr. Also if the cats are plugged up a vacume gauge will tell the tale it just keep dropping when you bring it off idle and hold a throttle position. Pull the codes it might be something else.
