Mercon V in E40D
The trans went in my 90 E350 with a 7.3 diesel. I had it rebuilt with all the upgrades. Seems to run fine. I asked the mechanic (owner) at the trans shop about the fluid. He said he uses Mercon V. Is this a problem? Thanks for any help.

It is supposed to be heavy duty with the latest upgrades. He said it is the same trans he puts in small dump trucks and landscaper trucks. Is there an advantage to Mercon V? How about using a good synthetic? Thank you.

There is an advantage to MERCON V for transmissions that need it. It can damage transmissions that don't use it. I don't know what materials he used to build the transmission, but a stock E4OD will die with MERCON V.
