need help quick!!

my friend brian leaves for Army boot camp, thursday morning. it is now monday evening!

i wanted to put together a little going away kit, like a disposable camera, envelopes so he can write home, a phone calling card, some cash, and deoderant / soap. but im now under the impression that they will take most of the stuff he has on him when entering ???

does anyone know what he can actually take with him that they wont take from him ?

thanks

first off don't give him anything but a good send off, then send mail every 3-4 days and lots of home baked goods, it will mean more than any pre going away gift will, trust me getting mail is one thing everyone looks forward to when your in boot camp....then if you can go to his graduation.......

call the local recruiting office, they should be able to tell you what he can bring. It's only basic training, they will be done with the new version of your friend in a few weeks.

truckertaz you too!! They took EVERYTHING and never did give me my hair back and 15 years later I'm still waiting for it

Builttough take your buddy out for a nice dinner, it'll be the last one he gets for a while, then send him a "hey how's it going letter" every few days and tell him what's going on back in the neighborhood and if at all possible go to his graduation. When I went into the Corps, hoooooyaaaaa, back in '90 I didn't get to keep much in the way of personal effects and they will issue him everything he needs to survive basic training except letters from home and friends.

Take up the collection and hang on to it for him so when he graduates basic and has a week at home before AIT you can take him out again. He really won't need money in basic, Uncle Sam will provide for him, 1/2 meal a day, 3-5 hours of sleep everynight, potty breaks from time to time, lots of water, and oh yeah FREE haircuts!!

He's not going to have a lot of free time. The room they have for personal items is basically their wallet. The little store (PX) is available sometimes, but part of the game is having a clean wall locker that looks like everyone elses. Best way to do that is buy the toiletry bag, razor, ect. at the PX like everyone else. Best bet is to just buy him some stamps at this point. After a couple weeks home baked goods, calling cards - stuff that can either be eaten or stuffed in a wallet are good. There's just no room or time for much else. He'll let you know what he needs. Whatever it is, try to ship it in a timely manner. People that get mail and goodies seem to do well. Try not to get him drunk before he goes - it can be a long hangover..

my time was navy and coast guard reserve, you have to mail back every thing that goes with you including the cloths on your back, they keep your hair "20 sec. hair cut is free".take him out to a nice bar. its going to be some time before he sees a lady for a while, every body else has said it as it is , when he goes he is better off going with a dity kit of soap, hand held manual razor, tooth brush manual type, tooth paste, and a comb, 2 days of cloths. you have to pay your self to mail home what you brought with you.so just the bare min.
wish him luck and god speed from us here.
