I have a 1995 Ford F250 7.3 L diesel and in the last year or so have had trouble starting in the cold( must be plugged in). Also even when the truck is warmed up when i try to start it, it most often dies maybe once or twice then will run ok or it has died while driveing down the road. The truck has 80K....................
I agree - sounds like it may be two problems. Cam position sensor is a simple fix, although not cheap. It is located at about 10:00 on the front harmonic balancer and is held in with one bolt with a 10mm head. About 10 minutes to replace first time for me, five now.
Glow plug system problem will cause cold start difficulties. I would start with this as it may take care of both, although many folks carry a spare cam position sensor just in case.

ALSO, My good friend has a 95 PSD, and he was having difficulty starting in all weather, thought it was glows, or CPS, All was well in those 2 departments, so we decited to throw in a new starter solinoid, starts great now even in cold weather!!
