Can anyone tell me what the r&r time is for the block heater and the ABS Valve,
(that is mounted on the frame rail under drivers' side) for '88 F350 7.3 IDI?
According to Ford, that is.
I don't know for sure but I'd guess about (I think you have to lift the motor out I know on my 4x4 you would have too to have the pan off) 8 hours for the block heater and another 2 for the abs valve this depends on who working on it and what they have for tools. if they don't run in to any problems. If I was working on it I'd say 2 days just to be safe i.e. 16 hours (overestimated of course).
Thanks, nogo. Mine are well exposed. I know that dealers have a rate book that gives
them the time it's suppose to take to do most any job on a motor vehicle. I have a
bad feeling I got screwed and not kissed by the stealership. I bought the parts at
the same place ahead of time, so they wouldn't have my truck for a week waiting for
parts, (I pay cost plus 20%, wholesale), and they charged me
$285.00 to do the job! I didn't think it would take them any more than 5 hrs with
complications. I just didn't want to be in the wet outdoors and do it myself. AT $45.00
per hour, thats only $225.00. I coudn't remember, but I thought it was 2.0 hours for
the block heater, (including removal of the starter), and 1.5 for the ABS valve including
bleeding the brakes. If that is correct, then I paid big bucks.
All you need to do is unhook the battery terminals and you can have the block heater out 15 minutes after the antifreeze gets done draining. Another 1/2 hour to put it back in, then refill the radiator, hook the batteries back up, done.
I just did mine in about 1.5 hours from start to finish.
most dealers I know charge $80-$90 an hour labor ( The worst part is the mechanic only sees $10-20 of it). You didn't get screwed on time it was money per hour.
Call another dealer and ask them to be reasonably accurate, could be a miss print in the book too. Call any good garage they all go by the Motors time guide.
