tomorrow i plan to doa tune up on my truck 1982 F150 4x4 with a 300 ci I6 engine, i want to put some high performance plugs, wires, distrubuotr cap and rotor in it, what do you reccomend as far as brands go? are splitfire plugs worth it? what will give me the best performance for the money?
If it has been giving you good service, I would take one of the plugs out and buy the exact same brand and number. Don't mess with success. You can try the expensive plugs, but some people don't have very good luck with them. Then you have other people who swear by them.
Splitfires and all the other gimmick plugs have not been shown to work any better - sometimes worse - than the traditional design. Even platinums have problems. Read Project MPG for real tips:

...but don't expect much more than 11mpg from that thing. Even when I went to an all-stock '95 EFI 4.9L, I only went from 10 up to 12mpg.
