Starting problems

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Dec-02 AT 10:33 PM (EST)]NEED HELP !!! can anyone answer this ? I have a 1984 f-150 4x4 that will not start. Cant seem to get spark to the plugs. Have replaced the computer, ignition module, coil, plug wires, dist.cap, EAC relay, pick up coil in distributor, and fixed some bad wires, still will not start. Any help would be greatly appreciated as patience is winding down at an alarming rate, ya theres gas in it ! Thanks , Mike e-mail : mtvee@prairie.lakes.com

We'll start here.

1)Is there power to the + terminal of the coil when the key is in the ON position?

Sounds like you have a rare '84 EFI, right? The Haynes manual give a very thorough and detailed prodedure for diagnosing ignition faults.

the truck has a 300 six cylinder with carb. I have been working with a chilton manual , but not getting the information I need , is a haynes manual more informative ?

If you're working on these trucks without the Ford manuals, you pretty much have to have BOTH the Chiltons and Haynes, even then, there's alot of stuff not covered.
If you hadn't spent so much on new ignition parts, I'd reccomend that you go to a non-feedback carb and a Duraspark-II setup.
With the feedback TFI-IV, you will still get spark even without the computer hooked up, you just won't get any advance...
If you have power to the + side of the coil, it sounds like you aren't getting a signal from the pickup.
I was gonna type in the Ford test procedure, but, it's too long... I'll just scan it...

could the ignition module have gone bad again ? or been faulty out of the box ? is there anyway to test this stuff to eliminate possible problems ?

Yes, you can buy brand new bad parts, and yes, there is a test procedure in the HAYNES MANUAL.
