I know the basics of my 92 7.3. I know the truck is heavy, with bed at almost 9500 lbs empty. SO its not gonna get up and go. HOWEVER,
Sometimes I can be cruising down the highway at 70 to 75, and hit a slight hill and never know it, even with a 3,000 lb trailer behind me. Other times It either wont take off, or keeps wanting to loose MPH. Has no smoke, unless pushed WOT, which gives normal black. I can hear a slight knock in the rear of the engine, but it doesnt smoke like other bad injectors ive seen. I took it to Buffalo this weekend. Same route up and back. On the way up, it ran like crap, and used a ton of fuel (more than normal). On the way back, when it seemed to run better, it used less fuel. I averaged 10-12mpg, on the way home (11,000 total weight) 4.11 gears, and on the way up, same weight about 7-8mpg. Where i get diesel doesnt seem to make a difference. Can i tell if an injector is leaking, or what should i look for?
I'm just shooting here in the dark but when I had my 7.3 it had a miss and the block was cracked and all eight injectors were bad. from what I was told the injectors were bad for a long time so I don't know what to tell you but I'd do a compression check make sure the air filter is clean and then test the injectors and the Ip at a local injector pump rebuilder. how many miles are on your truck?
