No Heat

All right, heres the background.
I have a '91 F-150. Since I bought it 4 years ago I've had a small heater core leak. I finally replaced it this fall. That took care of the leak of coarse. But lately I've been having problems getting any warm air. I thought maybe my thermostat was stuck open so I replaced that and also noticed the old thermostat gasket was leaking. So I replaced the thermostat and gasket and filled the radiator back up. Still the same problem. No heat. When I would start her up, I could hear the heater core gurgle every once in a while. I thought maybe it was air in the system. So I took the radiator cap off and let her run for about a half hour. Put the cap back on and low and behold I had heat again. It was heating just great. But, this weekend it started all over again. No heat. So, I'm thinking I have some air in the system. Do you guys have any thoughts on how to purge the system of any air. I was thinking of driving the truck up on some ramps or an incline, removing the radiator cap, and letting her run for a while, in hopes of "burping" her. I'm open to suggestions here.....
Thanks,
JEV

Sounds like a good idea. When you don't have heat, are both heater hoses hot?

Yep, both heater hoses were hot which made me suspicious. I took the glove box out and pulled the panel off from around the heater core. I suspected it had something to do with the blend door.
Its kind of a funny story but I did figure out what was wrong. Being I live in the country I do a lot of plinking with my .22's. I tend to park the truck in the yard and plink at some steel targets I have hanging out in the field. I often lean out of the door of the pickup and it tends to throw empties up onto the dash from time to time. Well, when I pulled the cover off of the heater core and examined the blend door I noticed an empty .22 shell was preventing the door from closing all the way. I imagine it was rattling around and once in a while the door would close when I was messing around, allowing the pickup to seem like it was heating properly. I removed the empty, and all is well again.
Reminded me of the time when I was a wee lad and my brother shoved a bunch of my star wars action figures into the defrosting vents of my dads old F-150. He was pulling melted figures out of there for a while. Needless to say he wasn't to happy about it....

Glad you got it figured out. I know I find 22, 9mm, rifle and shotgun cases all the time in mine.

And no, it's not from road hunting.

Guys i thought you would like this one.My little brother left his car parked at college over the holidays for about two weeks and never even cranked it.When he finally did he turned on the a.c. and believe it or not dog food shot out of the air conditioner vents.Aparently a rat made a home in his blower box and started stockpiling dog food and it kinda looked like twine that he had made his little home with.He said it scared the crap out of him.Just thought yall would get a kick out of that.

I brought a Ranger back to life that a pack rat had made a home in the duct work. After I cleared all of his crap out, it would still spew a nut or some twine every now and then.

I was so glad my dog killed the miserable little rodent.
