acceleration problem

I have a 1987 FORD RANGER 2WD, supercab, 2.9 L V6 engine, 5 speed manual...bought it recently with only 70 000km on it...I've noticed a problem though with brisk acceleration in 1st gear...it begins to accelerate OK (with the clutch fully engaged) but then at one point it always does this kind of "lug" before i reach the speed at which I'd shift to 2nd...On slow acceleration I don't notice anything...but when I kind of step it up it will always do this "lug" about a second or so after I get going...I've also noticed it the odd time when accelerating in 2nd, but not often...I've just changed the spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor and fuel filter and even computer (as it was corroded and no good) but the problem is still there...any ideas? I don't even know where to start!

When you replaced the rotor, did you replace the coil as well? If not this could be the problem...good luck!

Checking the fuel pressure and pulling the codes might give you a clue.
