fuel pump failure! electrical issue?

need help!! fuel pump only getting 6volts not ...working! 2000 f250 diesel
<HR style="COLOR: #666666" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->hey guys.. i need to pick some brains here! i am giving a description of what went on here today! this truck has 110000 miles so anything is possible. i was getting hesitation while driving then it was misfiring with the sound of only a few cylinders going. i just made it to my driveway. i decided maybe the injectors are clogged! i dumped fuel and proceeded to check it out, i thought maybe it might be a fuel starvation issue so i clicked on the key! and the pump did not click on! the bowl did not fill up! so i felt it was the fuel pump! well i removed that! and tried it in my hand by hooking it up to a battery! it worked then,so i checked the power source where the pump was mounted! i am only receiving 6volts! i had checked all fuses! nothing! it may be the relay for pump? as another member had stated. where exactly is that located, does anyone have a fuse box diagram to send ?

No need to start another thread. Just add to the original and it will go to the top again. If you cycle the key you can hear and feel it click. Did you check the battery voltage?

yes i did check the battery voltage and its normal 12 volts on both.i had cycled the key and i hear the clicking in the area,i guess i need 2 people for that one! would it be possible that the relay would only allow half the voltage??? just picking brains hear! , this stuff makes me trouble shoot to no end until i solve the problem, very strange although it explains why my truck was starving for fuel! i most likely would be still going nuts if i didnt open up the fuel bowl and turned the key on to realize that the pumps not working!

Possible yes, likely? When you find it, pull it out and check the connections. You can swap it with another relay in that box for a quick test.

If your getting 6 volts to the pump you have to have power to the relay. You need to see how much you have there. The PCM activates the relay.

inertia sw

Check voltage coming in and going out on the inertia switch. I belive it is mounted behind passengers side kick panel. It is designed to brake circuit to fuel pump in case of collision. It is possible that it is not making good contact internally, causing low voltage. Also make sure fuel pump has good ground.
