Hi all!

My truck is a 99 SD CC 4x4 PSD with automatic, 184k mi. I have a rattle which sounds as though it is coming from high up in the dash area. I disassembled half the damn dash, only to find it seems to come from the blue anodized canister next to the brake booster- a vacuum canister, I believe. If my buddy lifts up on it slightly, the rattle goes away. Pressure on the master cyl has no similar effect, only the canister. Did a quick search of the forum, but nothing turned up. Anyone run into this problem before? Any advice on fixes? Tried wire-tying it up to the brake line above it, but no help. Anyone have any ideas before I go ???

I've got the same truck but only 60K and haven't started having those type of troubles yet. Sorry

 

I have a '97 250 - same noise. Seems to come and go. seems to come from the passenger side. Didn't have a clue what the heck it was. Will pursue.

 

I have the same type of noise in my 95 coming from the passenger side. It drives me insane. Ive taken the dash apart three times and sprayed everything down with wd and it never went away. If you guys find out where this mysterious noise is coming form please let me know.

Oh yeah, it happens only at idle/below 1000rpm. Above that, it goes away; if I press the brake pedal, it stops. but JEEZ is it annoying!!! Anyone else have any ideas? Is the canister tightenable or replaceable? Can't really tell.

 

And then it fixed itself...
