More people know me by various nick names, so my first name is something that I don't use much, outside immediate company. Using a nickname all the time is useful, if you don't like, it costs nothing to change.
My first name is Eric. I like it. It's not common and it does not have any abbreviated forms. Same logic went into naming my son Liam.
My middle name is Ernest, which I always hated as a kid. When I was a teenager I found out I was named after my Grandfather, Ernst (he died 5 years before I was born). I wish my parents hadn't anglicized it, but I wear it proudly now.
I couldn't justify naming Liam after his Grandfather and starting a tradition. Liam Engelbert would have got him beat up in school. I love my Dad (Bert), but it's not a pleasant-sounding name in English. So we named him Liam Eric.
i saw this post and i realized we all have way too much time on our hands...... so on to my answer ever since i was little i liked the name Luke.... but i have found that i like my name Jeff.... it fits me
My names Matthew but I go by Matt. Never have exactly fallen in love with it but I dont know what I would change it to. But my middle name is Elliott. Although rare, its kinda weird. No one in my family with it either, I dont know where it came from. I like the idea of the name Ford though, never thought of it as a first name... maybe I'll remember that for future reference.
My name is Robert. Most call me Bob. By now (58) I am used to it. My parents nick named me "Homer", because everytime they took me to visit relatives in the city, as soon as we got there, I would start to ask "when are we going home". I guess I would stick with Bob for the next 58 years. After that I might change it. Ask me again then. I'll start to work on it now.
My name is Owen. I really didn't like it when I was younger. I complained to my parents about it. They informed me that they had almost hung the name Engebret around my ears. I decided Owen wasn't too bad.
Now that I'm older (36) I kind of like not being named like all the other Toms, Dicks, and Harrys, no offense to anyone named that.
Real name is Brian and I hated it as a kid. I like my middle name Matthew and gave that name, as the middle name, to my son as well. He is the 5th generation to have that as a middle name so thats pretty cool. Even if I did change my name everyone would end up just calling me by my nickname any way.
And then there was Merry Christmas...they could have at least spelled it Mary
I work with a gal named Mary Chrisman- that's perty close!

Ill agree that it is a pretty rare name overall, but in my graduating class there were 3, and only 64 of us walked that year. They actually outnumbered us(michael's and scott's)
As for me, I like my name, Michael Scott, it flows well I think. I go by my middle name most of the time, unless my mom is riding in my truck then my first name gets used often. If I had to change my name though, I would change it to Michigan J, so I could have the same name as that frog....
Scott
My own name is okay. Not many people use it, though... I have a nickname that is starting to die out, I think ("Doc"), and I use my initials when I sign my name and at my job in town. My middle name is my dad's first name and my great-grandfather's middle name. I wanted to make some reference to it in my own name, and since using all three names sounded a bit pretentious, as well as being a mouthful, I came on the idea of using my initials.
So, I guess I would'nt change any of my names.

I'd change mine to Ranger, I've come quite attached to that name.
The only bad thing with being named Richard is everyone who doesn't know you always wants to call you Dick right away.
