I finally got my gun safe out of storage yesterday - it had been away since 2003... It is a Fort Knox Maverick, and works great, when I can get into it. It is empty, so that is no worry, but after having lugged a 500 pound safe into my house, and set it up, I want to get into it, obviously, but.... I have forgotten the rotation sequence required to enter the combination. I wrote the combination down in another safe, but ommited to write the ritual...
Have any of you guys got such a safe, and could you let me know what the turn ritual is to get it open???
Mine works the same as 02PSD4ME and there is a fourth number that I dial to unlock the handle. I think all locks by the same manufacturer use a fourth number which is built in. If I turn the dial slowly, I don't have to see it, I can feel the tumbler fall on that fourth number. Maybe it'll work for you.
I was just looking at a bunch of these in a store yesterday.
All had the following sequence:
1) Turn to the left until you hit your first number the 4th time.
2) Turn back to the right until you hit your second number for the 3rd time.
3) Turn to the left until you hit your third number for the 2nd time.
4) SLOWLY turn the dial back to the right until you get to 0 or 95 or so. The dial will get a bit harder to turn and then will come to a stop. The safe is open.
Mine starts out rotating to the right (clockwise), then the left, then right again.
It also came with a # that is a little easier to remember because there is a sequence between the numbers like: ab-bc-ca Not exactly a bank vault but it keeps unwanted little hands (wife included) off the iron.
There must be something wrong with the lock - I have tried all suggestions, including an email from the manufacturer, and still the thing remains locked. I am glad there are no weapons in it, I can throw it in the dump quite happily.
get a torch and see how much it takes to get it open.
At least the safe used to work for you. We have 3 government surplus file cabinates the boss bought at liquidation company. Each drawer has a combo lock on it and there are 4 drawers per cabinet, we never have had the combo for them but now they have been there for 5+ years.
Thats why I always recommended to people the electronic lock option when I sold guns and safes. Personally, I'll get a big safe with the E lock to avoid the 4L or is it 4R then 3R or 3L questions. But I think 4 to the left or right followed by 3 to the opposite should get it open. The last digit on some locks feels like it falls into a detent. The advise given so far by others sounds correct to me.

Before throwing the safe in the dump, consider getting a locksmith over to open it for you. It will cost a few bucks, but if it saves the safe you will be $$$ ahead...beats having to buy another one!

I always wondered about the electronic locks.
It seeems to me they could be extremely easy to bypass depending on how they are built. You can't tell how secure they are by looking at them. You would have to take it apart and reverse engineer it.
Also all the ones I see run on battery which would seem to me to be a problem. If you are able to open it without power to replace the battery, why have the combo at all? If you aren't, how are you going to get in?
that's why I bought an ArmorVault, no dials, no combo's just recessed keys surrounded by 1" of steel in the doors & around the locks, if someone breaks in they are going to try & knock of the dial or the wheel to get in, then you pay a locksmith about $400 to come out & fix it, hope all turns out well for you, Bear safes are another option, just not as pretty as the ArmorVault, sorry I could not help you with your problem, depending on how many guns you have, another 3 or 4 hundred bucks, might want to look into the safes mentioned, good luck
