spark plug blowout

My father owns a 1999 F250 Supercab 4x4 5.4L . A sprark plug somehow blew out of the threads & knocked the coil-over off in the process. Upon inspecting the plug, it is an OEM & acording to the wear, has been there since the truck was new. The threads on the plug do not extend all the way to the shoulder of the plug & therefore, would not allow the plug to be seated against the head? Is this the way it was designed or is the plug defective? The threads in the aluminum head are ruined, would a helicoil work? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Do a search for this problem.
Also chk out www.timesert.com its better than helicoils just for this problem

The newer design head in 01 (i think had full 8 threads in the head )has fixed this so they say .

Thanks for the quick reply & the www.timesert.com suggestion. Looks my father is not the only one having or have had this problem. They have a kit made just for the 5.4 Triton.

Happy driving!
