I Hope That Someone Out There Can Answer This Question. I Have A 91 F150 4x4 With A 302 Engine. Well The Engine Is Shot And I Would Like To Replace It With A 351 Engine. The Transmission Is An Aod And Has Been Rebuilt With Less Than 4000 Miles On It. Problem Is I Was Told That I Would Need A Different Trans Because The Aod Would Not Hook Up To The 351 Engine. A Friend Of Mine Told Me There Is A Transmission Adapter That Would Enable Me To Switch From The 302 To The 351 Engine And Hook Up To The Aod Trans. If So, I Can't Find It Anywhere. Any Ideas Out There.

Welcome to FTE! As everone has said, the 302 and 351W share the same bolt pattern for the bellhousing, my truck is a 94 so it has the E4OD and I made the engine switch in it without any problems.
whats all involved with switching out a 302 for 351w. I want to do the same in my 91 f150 at 4wd but Ive been getting some mixed reviews. can anyone help?
thanks

You need to switch the engine of course, using the 351W flexplate rather than the 302 flexplate - the engines are balanced differently. The wiring harnesses are the same in that year, so all you'd need to do is find yourself a 351W computer of that year range and your swap is essentially done.
When you get the 351W, make sure you get all the accessory bracketry - while the accessories themselves swap over no problem, the bracketry is different enough that you'd want to get the brackets with the engine.
Other than that, its probably a one weekend job by yourself. I've done it a few times on various vehicles over the years.
I picked up my donor engine to do y swap. Its a 90 351w going into a 90 that had a 302. My problem is that the computor out of the donor truck was for a c6
I have a overdrive. The yard flat out refuses to sell me a computor without an oem number. When I explained to him I was doing a swap he still woouldnt do it. Does anyone have a number off of there computor that fits a 90 f150 4X4 with an overdrive tranny and a 351w?
thanks in advance

computer numbers go to (http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/) they have a list of computers and numbers. the part number for the flexplate is FRA-205..$43 from AUTOZONE...the cheapest i've found...well today i compared a '87 5.0 BRONCO Y pipe to a '88 5.8 Bronco and they were the same. so the difference could be in the exhaust manifolds...anyway i'd personally install a set of shorty headers. i have a set of FLOTECH they were about $160...

Does your 90 have a AOD or a E4OD? if it is just a AOD the C6 computer will work, if it is a E4OD you'll need to find a E4OD computer. futhermore i'd find a new yard to get parts from, that guy at your present yard sounds like a real "Richard Cranium"!
I completed my switch form a 302 to 351w in a 90 f150 4x4 and an AOD. Motor runs great everything bolted up fine the problem now is the tranny doesnt work. Took it to a Ford dealer and they have had it for a 2 weeks. Replaced torque convertor and the front pump 2 times and now they tell me the motor isnt right for this tranny. Has anybody else run into this problem? They tell me that the motor keeps blowing the tranny up.
no problems with the E4OD working with the larger displacement Windsor. You may have to have a stronger torque convertor and a shift kit if you have a high horse power engine, but other than that its the same tranny on both 351 and 302.
