99 mountaineer fuel pump help
Hi all long time reader first time poster . Here is the problem , I have a 99 mercury mountaineer 4.0 sohc and for about a year now it has hat a hard start issue , it takes about 8 seconds of cranking to get it started but not all the time . recentely i purchased a fuel pressure gauge and tested it i found that while it was running (in idle ) the psi stayed at 65 psi but as soon as i turned the key off the pressure droped like a rock from 65 to 0 psi in less than 6 seconds . so here are my questions , is the 99 mountaineer equipped with a returnless fuel system because i can not visually find a return regulator, would leaking injectors cause such a rapid drop in pressure? if this is a returnless system can someone please post more info on this type system mainly any differences on testing .please any ideas on what part failed and what needs to be replaced please let me know . i am leaning towards a malfunction in the pump but i would like further input before i drop the tank

well all done and problem solved . it will now hold pressure when the key is turned off and also it will start with only one crank of the starter .life is good .
