my 91 f250 front tank pump don't seem to be working,
the back tanks fine , by when I switch it over I hear nothing and have
no fuel,
can anyone help me to locate the problem,
thanks
If you decide the pump is, in fact fried, I would pull the bed off before I'd drop the tank. To get to the pump/sender unit in the tank, its way easier to just take the bed off of the truck and work at it from the topside, rather than drop the tank and get dirt and other hidden crap hiding in the undercarriage in your eyes
Just replaced front tank fuel pump after 238,010 miles. Got in old flight suit; pressure washed under bed in as thoroughly as possible. Rented transmission jack; u-bolted a 2x10 4' long to it; used HVAC ties (like wire ties on steroids) to safe tank to 2x10. (It was necessary to loosen the straps a little to get the HVAC ties over tank easily.) Loosened filler neck and straps; Bled system at the schraeder valve; lowered tank using jack; R&R on pump after cleaning inside of tank as well as possible (got suprisingly little residue and trash-testament to our fuel system in the US?); jacked the tank back into position and replaced the fuel filter since "I was there". Tank labor time: 1:45 total time involved including jack rental and return about five hours. Fuel pump cost $172.55, labor cost saved from dealer: $300.00. Worth the effort to do it myself: yep.

You really don't even have to take the bed completely off. Undo the hold down bolts and remove the ones on the drivers side. The ones on the other side, just run the nuts to the end of the bolts but leave them in place. Unhook the wiring for the drivers side lights and lift up that side of the bed. Tolt the bed up high enough to access the top of the tank and go to work. Don't forget to properly support the bed, a broken hand is no way to start the New Year. Good luck.
Fuel pump purchased from Advance Auto Parts. Web site had same price @ Autozone. Seems Fuel pump for steel tank, 155" wheel base is about $40.00 more than others listed.

NOTE: If you choose to tilt the bed, don't forget to loosen the Filler neck on BOTH tanks.
before you go and change the pump. i would get a test light and check the rocker switch on the dash. i thought forsure i had a pump out one time. after changing the pump and still not having power i found out the switch was the problem the whole time
I'd drop the tank instead of taking off the bed, if I were doing it myself. I did both my tanks over last summer, and had no extra hands to help hump the bed off, so it was easier to drop the tanks.
All I did was put a 2x8 under the tank, and a floor jack underneath that, to hold it up against the bed, then blast out the bolts with an impact gun. yes, I expected to replace the bolts, and had to Anyway, swapped pumps and senders, lifted back up with the jack, restrapped and bolted it together.
I will say, since gasoline is about 5lbs per gallon, this is a job to do with as little gas in the tank as possible. I ran both tanks almost dry, siphoned out the rest, I had about 3 gallons between the two tanks.
And someone suggested about getting undercarriage crap in the eyes... powerwash the underside, and wear goggles. Gloves would be good too if the edges of your tank are sharp... mine were... sliced my arm open pretty good. But I'm a clumsy monkey sometimes
