just so you know, anyone is welcome to post, even you guys out there in Nebraska, we'll lower our standards... Just kidding. We have a member from the Omaha area, since you don't have a chapter for yourselves just yet, not that it matters what state you're from to be a member. (look at me, my residence is 15 south of the border!)
I don't understand these idiots that are in that much of a hurry, it doesn't do a bit of good to arrive DOA. I was lucky in that I don't have to go anywhere, so I don't know just how bad the roads got, but traffic kept going all day, so it must have been passable, but the Mo DOT does a damn nice job taking care of the roads, even the county roads.
I was running my route yesturday (8 inches of snow on top of ice) when some kid comes flying around the corner doing at least 30 mph and SMACK right into the State Troopers car parked there I drove up there to see if the kid was ok and he was, just as I was helping the kid out of the car out comes a REALLY REALLY P.O.'ed pappa bear
The sad part is the kid lives just around the corner from where the accedent happened. I gave my statement and kept moving
I've noticed as well that the majority of the vehicles in the ditch are 4x4's, people tend to think they are invincible with the 4x4 and so drive like crazy in bad weather. Serves them right.
No snowmobiling for me today... yet. I spent all day moving snow and scooping sidewalks. Cleaned our driveway and farmyard and also did our church. Even though the snow is light and fluffy, when you have 16" of it stacked up, it makes it tough scooping! This snow with the ice underneath is treacherous, I was plowing our driveway with the tractor, wheels spinning trying to go up and am sliding backwards. Sure makes it tough moving snow!
Hope you truckers stay safe and keep an eye out for those idiot drivers.
We always put the chains on the loader tractor to help with the ice, never failed, if it didn't happen naturally, it would happen after packing the snow driving on it. I use 4wd for traction, but have to keep in mind that the braking is still crap. That's the thing most of those drivers forget, that or they push too hard, and when they lose it, they lose it big.
We only had just a light covering when I got up yesterday, then melted off, and is fine today. Maybe some of you guys in the burlington area can tell me what to expect when I go to work tonight am I gonna have any problems running 34 over to galesburg? hopin they have any, and all cleaned off before I head out at midnight but never know, don't mind snow but driving this truck on ice ain't no fun.
Hey monsterbaby, Where in Galesburg do you work? I drive a yard van at BNSF.
Guess the storm must have ran out of snow by the time it crossed into Iowa. We got about 14 inches here in the Omaha area, on top of two inches of ice. It's been fun commuting with all the idiots this week.
The old pickup sure works great in the snow. I'm just afraid that after my truck's first winter in all this Nebraska road salt, it will look like all the other old Fords around here!
