carb return line????

carb return line????

on a 79 crew cab, with a 400 engine, it has the motorcraft carb.
my question is.......is there a return line coming off of the carb?

No, there shouldn't be a return line in the fuel system. It may have a vapor recovery line coming from a bowl vent going to the charcol canister.

There shouldn't be one but there MIGHT be one! My 1973 302 auto had one. Apparently Ford used the return line configuration when they expected vapor lock to be a problem. If you have a return line, it will be "Y'ed" off of the line which feeds the carb. Just follow the line up from the fuel pump and see if there is a Y anywhere between the fuel pump and the carb. If so, you have the return line.

When Ford used a fuel return the system was called "Hot Fuel Return". Diagrams can be found in some manuals. They were most common on 460 applications.
