Angry remote door locks???

I recently bought a 2004 6.0 PSD and so far it runs great. Only one thing My Remote door locks will sometimes fail to unlock or lock with the remote. I know it is not the remote battery because It does the same with both remotes. I took the truck to the dealer and get this... they told me it is due to the humidity affecting the remote and also could be Radio frequency interference. I am not much of an argueing kind of person so I left. I have a degree in electronics and I know the Radio frequency has nothing to do with it and I live in the middle of the desert where there is little and mostly no humidity. does anyone else have the remote lock problem? What could the problem be.

Hi timgonz98,

Welcome to the 6.0 L forum. Check out the Welcome sticky at the top of the forum page. It has links to a number of great threads and sites.

I've never had a problem with my remotes. While RFI is certainly something to consider in some cases, I agree that in your case it sounds unlikely that it is the problem if you are out in the middle of nowhere. Though if there is a military base anywhere near by they can transmit on the same frequencies as used by the remotes. The problem would be intermittant though as they don't transmit all the time.

one thing to remember ....

the driver door WILL lock with the key in the ignition if you shut the door too quickly ( ie , before the door unlocks...) and the remote does not unloc the door with the keys in the ignition , engine running ...only Ford Roadside assistance unlocks the door in that case DOH DOH DOH !!!! he he he !

as far as why it dunt work all the time ?
have no clue ...mine does the same , as does a Chrysler town and country i know of ...might just be the signal not being picked up by the antennae ??

Did you try reprograming the remotes with a new security code?? (worked on my garage door) Maybe a module issue, but I think the humidy 'guess' is a bit fetched.. I could see a RF interference/interupt 'on occasion' but unless it was in the same area ect. probably not.. Do you have the keypad as well, and will it open the door everytime?? Its been pretty damp/foggy here lately, and mine work fine.. Don't have my TRUCK!!! (Ford keep'n an eye on her for a few days , but the remotes are all good!!!!

.................HP.......................

From how far away? Mine fails to unlock sometimes. I find if I hold it down low (hip level) it will fail more often than if I hold it up high (head high). I have my ignition key on a ring that I can separate and the remote will lock the door with the engine running with the doors closed.

I have noticed the same thing a few times; even standing right next to the truck. Usually it will go ahead and work after about 5-15 seconds.

Got me!

When I read this, I thought "I didn't know that." I was thinking I have done this and it worked fine although most the time I'll simply use the keypad on the door. So I went out to the drive and started it up. Either of the two remotes would lock and unlock my doors while the engine was running. I locked the doors with the inside electric lock button; the remotes still worked.

My 04 simply has the keyless entry system; no remote start or security system.

OK, I'm toooo slow. How many times have I listened to BlondeStar?

Well I took everyones advice into consideration and it seems to me like it may be the reciever not picking up the signal. The keypad works every time on the driver side door. I will try to unlock or lock the door with the remote standing 1 foot away from the truck and sometimes it will not work. If I were to unlock the door with the keypad and then try the remote it will start working again. I dont know this is too wierd I just decited to go buy an aftermarket remote starter/door lock what the heck just upgade and everything will be Okay.

I have been told that if you relocate the antenna on the truck then it will pick up ten times better. I haven't seen how to do it but I hear it works.

I figured you were not serious and you were making fun of the OnStar commercials; now I see you were serious. Both of my key fobs will unlock the truck running or not. The keypad on my door (which I believe is the 'wired' version as opposed to the wireless version) will also unlock the truck with engine running or not. Maybe it is a function the dealer can change the operation of? I actually have a key hidden inside of the truck since I figure if I ever loose the normal key I can simply use the keypad on the door to get in.

I will have to try this on my son-in-law's truck; anyone else unable to use their key fob to unlock a truck with the engine running?

Key FOB on the fritz

My 2004 FOB works when it feels like it. I changed the batteries with no luck. Didnt feel like wasting my time at the dealership. I would like to know how tho find/move the antenna if someone could tell us how it would be nice.

You can't lock mine

My 2004 won't lock with the engine running. If I try to get out and hit the lock button with the motor running the door unlocks as soon as it shuts. I guess this is so you can't lock the keys in the car, but I would like to sometimes lock it with the motor running.

Guess it doesn't matter. I get my 05 tomorrow.

I do have a keypad on my driver door and it allows me to lock the door while my truck is running. Thats what I usually do in the morning. I start the truck and then lock the door with the keypad, then unlock the door with the keypad when I am ready to leave.
