yes the truck will lock when you push the lock button. The chevrolets do it as well in order to keep you from locking your keys in the truck but I just hit lock then when it pops up just hit it back down then its locked! Try that!
The earlier SDs would not allow the fob to work if the engine was running. SO if you took your fob with you while the truck was running, you'd come back to find yourself locked out. This was a common enough complaint that they fixed it in 2002 MY trucks or so.
The wired pad has always allowed you to lock or unlock your truck with the engine running.
The electric lock button on the inside of the driver's door doesn't want to let you lock your keys in the truck, but on th enewer trucks you can get around this by closing the door and just using the fob.
(Does that answer everyone's related questions?)
I noticed that on the '03 (as compared to the '00 X) that a sharp jab at the fob button didn't always work. You simply need to press and hold it for a second. This is regardless of distance, battery strength, whether you hold at your hip or in your mouth, etc. I think the newer trucks just want to see a longer signal, which may be causing some of the complaints here.
well holding the keypad for a second instead of a jab sounds about right and it makes sence. If the keys were in my pocket and I got jabbed or something then I wouldnt want my truck to unlock. Hmmm
My key fobs are also stubborn, sometimes they work flawlessly, and other times you have to try multiple times to lock or unlock the truck.
When I want to lock my truck while it is running, I simply push the driver door lock down manually. If you use the electric lock button, the lock pops back up before you can lock yourself out, but pushing the lock down by hand and it will stay locked.
I checked to see that the keypad on the door would unlock it first (with the windows down)....
