Hello Everybody,
I was looking at the specs on the new F150 and noticed the front suspension is now double wishbone instead of the twin I beam.
Why did Ford change from the twin I beam to the double wishbone?
Isn't the wishbone suspension what Chevy uses?
My brother in law said it was for ride quality. I want to know why Ford ever changed from the twin axle beam. It is darn near indestructable. I should know. I have an 81 F-150 4wd, and let me tell you it has seen some abuse over the last 23 years
The reason is because twin i-beams ride quality sucks compared to wishbone, and ford is making a 'luxury' type truck.
TTB is hard to keep in alignment and doesn't ride as good as double wishbone. I think ford used the twin ibeam for so long because it is cheap and easy to engineer.
Ford went to wishbone because they wanted to make a luxury truck and not a pickup. If you want the good stuff, you need a superduty.
