I have never had it done with any of my trucks. Alway's wanted to. Especially the Supercab. How much does that cost these day's? Seems to unfortunately be a big differance in book value and what people are actually paying for them. Only the real nice ones sell for even close. Looks like you have one of those though. Gotta be my favorite year Ford truck. Good Luck with it.
Gregg get it appraised. I think it cost me 80 bucks to have mine done. The 79 F-250 appraised at 18 grand, this was about 5 years ago and before I did the frame off 429 conversion. I took mine to Volo auto museum, well worth it and now I have it insured for the correct amount.
Wow! I thought it was a lot more expensive than that. I'll get it done in the spring first thing. American Collector's Ins., the company I had my Vette insured through wouldn't insure the truck. So now it is only insured for about $12,000.00 with full coverage. Gonna have to get that changed. Thanks.
Not trying to stir a pot here but this has brought up a question or two for me , that I would like info on, because I have a totally restored 79 that needs insured also. I dont want to be duped by paying big premiums for insurance on my "highly appraised" 79 vehicle, that if totaled out, I may end up having to go to court just to get my 10 k for it, .....
What is the value in getting an appraisal on a older restored vehicle, other than for insurance purposes? Isnt appraisals commensurate with the amount a buying public will pay for it, and the amount banks will loan on them ? ...
And when getting a vehicle insured, doesn't the consumers " amount willing to pay price " and the banks loan value amount, dictate what a vehicle is worth ? How can insurance companies , in good faith , say they will pay over 10 k for a 1979 year vehicle that has no loan value at a bank, regardless of condition and mods ? And, in reality, getting 10 k for 79 pickup, even when it is immaculate and moded out, would be a very limited sellers market at best, would it not ??
What is a big premium? I pay 510 bucks a year to have mine insured for the 18 grand. On the other hand my wifes 2003 Z71 Suburban cost's me 600 a year, so yes I guess I am paying a big premium but if the truck is totaled in a wreck, burnt to the ground or stolen I will be paid the 18 grand from my insurance co. Well worth it to me.

No, getting an appraisal is what tells you the vehicles worth.

But what sucks is after I got them apprased my insurance company said I can't get "classic" insurance untill I am 30!!!!! This sucks, I guess I just ahve to not wreck them (Like I would every want too........)
To have full coverage on my 1978 F250 Super Cab 4x4, which is all original, great truck, my insurance company wanted an appraisal, cost me $50.00.
Valued at $7500. They did insure it for me, It runs $610 a year. It's now up for sale, asking $7200. Do you think this is to much? Pictures are in the gallery. Have had several inquires, but when they see they price they seemed shocked.
