Take a look at the Toyo Open Country A/T's. So far they have handled very well in the snow and ice we have had. Wet weather traction is also very good. I had the BFG's and while they were a good tire, they certainly weren't inspiring in the "weather". They did run for a long time, I got 60,000+ out of them.
Some other have mentioned the Coopers. I had those on my F-150 and they were an awesome snow/wet tire. I hardly had to put it into 4x4 mode during the winter. I didn't rotate them very much so they died a quick death, about 30,000 miles.
One other thing to consider, is the size especially if you get lots of snow, the big wide tires may look great on our trucks, but they won't help you get anywhere. Tall skinny tire is what will get you in and out of places.
jhl385 - stock tires are always a cost compromise from the manufacturer. They normally don't meet anyone's requirements. Your problem with the Goodyears may be the tread pattern is causing the sway. I have experienced that with other tires before and it doesn't matter what you do it won't go away. The Firestones made for the Ford is BS.
For your requirements I would have to agree with SoCalDesertRider if you are not planning on going seperate snow tires. The BFG AT KO's are winter rated and you can get good wear out of them, but nothing will beat dedicated snow tires for winter traction and another set of tires for summer.
take a look at the tire rack web site and read what they have for your truck and how buyers personally rate them. i use yokohama geolanders and have not had any problems
i think tire rack is a sponser here
