Missing Timing Mark

I have a 55 with a 232 6cuy that has no obvious timing pointer, has any one got a photo you could post or any other ideas on how to time this properly?

Sorry, no photo. I have seen the timing setup done, though. I haven't had occassion to do this myself, however, here goes:
Take off the valve cover. Rotate the engine until #1 cylinder is at top dead center (both valves closed on #1). use a circuit tester in the #1 plug wire end (other end to ground). Rotate the distributor until the circuit tester light comes on. That is static TDC on the engine, where #1 is firing at TDC. Add a marker (your choice) to the timing cover. Mark the location on the balancer accross from the marker.
I use a Craftsman timing light that lets you set the degrees advance you want, so I'm always setting the timing against the static TDC marker instead of trying to read degrees on the balancer.
Hope that helps. I would have chimed in sooner, but as you can tell, my info is a bit sketchy. Others members, I'm sure, will fill in my blanks here.
