Transmission shifter linkage

1977 Ford F-100, 302, Performance cam, 670 Carb , Rug 3 Tranny,344 rears,Headers,Flowmasters.

I can not get into reverse off the stick. It was working fine before I pulled it out of my old truck that my nephew wrecked. Now it just will not get it.Teh Linkages do not seem to be bent in anyway.I cant remember if I had to beat the floor a bit to accomadate linkage movement.I ended up going under the truck and putting it in gear that way for a bit.Got sick of doing that and ended up sticking in a 3 speed out of 68 Mustang. I would like to get the 4 speed back in since I do like the short throw shifter and being able to grab gears a little easier. That and its more fun also.

The guy in the Stealth thought it was funny until I started to pull away from him Lmao. He would have got me eventually and I could not afford a ticket anyway so I did not go the distance with him.

Also,
Does anyone have any thoughts of other Mods that I might be able to do?

I am still doing some slight body work right now and plan on doing the paint in the spring.Interior is already finished and I already have enough sound in it for me since I am in my 40s.It is just a toy for me. It actually takes more fuel with me warming it up every few days than I use when I take it out for a spin. Thanks..........Later

Welcome to FTE!
Even though this involves a 77 truck ,this is more a Transmission topic than 73-79 truck topic.

Thread will be moved to the transmission forum

I assume you are running the SMOD, the side mounted linkage job.

My stock SMOD is so far left and up that it hits the driver's seat when selecting R.

I've never had mine off, so I'm not sure if these adjust the same way a Hurst does. Hurst--you put it in N, put a 1/4 drill through the holes in the arms under the stick, then hook up the rods to the tranny.

Perhaps you could have a trusted friend row it through the gears and try R whilst you gaze upward with appropriated light and eye protection to see whats the matter?

Good luck.

I am going to try and bolt it onto my deck " loll " and see if I cant get it to work that way. If it does then I will know it must be hitting something and some minor mods should allow it to clear what ever is hindering it. Mine is a side mount also. I was thinking it was something in the reverse lockout mechanism. Something malfunctioning. Will try your suggestion also after I get over this slight New Years Celebration Feeling.....Thanks....
