I have a 86 f-250,460 carburated where are the fuel relays? And how can I tell what Ingition system I have, and does the Ing.Mod(on the fender)have anything to do with the fuel or is it just for spark,I'm just not getting fuel, but I think it is my in tank fuel pump.
From what I've seen here, the relays should be near the spark box. Also, if it is a big aluminum box, with cast on ribs, it is DSII. If it is a small plastic module, it is TFI.
I believe there is an oil pressure switch in your relay circuit too. And also a inertia cut-off switch(don't ask me where that is-I don't know), that feeds power to the fuel pumps.
The fuel/oil pressure relay switch is on the "T" on the back of the engine with the oil pressure gauge sender. Black 1" diameter, two wires coming out. Mine failed a couple of weeks ago and cost me a $200.00 tow bill. Pull the plug a jump the top two holes with a small wire. That will tell weather it is the cuprit. Yes there is a crash shut down, a tag on the radiator support should tell you where that is located, I have forgotten (hasn't broken YET)
Furl pump relay is on a plastic bracket off the firewall just above the ignition box. Ignition is DEFINATLEY Duraspark II, the 460 never ran anything else before it went EFI.
As for the inertia switch, on my truck, it was on the pass side of the transmission hump, up by the firewall.
If you suspect the fuel pump, it probably is... They are notorious, both of mine were gone(dual tanks)...

I believe that an '86 carbed. 460 would have a block mounted mechanical fuel pump therefore it cannot just be turned off.
Also if the fuel pump was able to just turn off it still would not quit running until the fuel bowls went dry, which could be up to a mile depending on how you are running at the time.

I believe the 460 had a hot fuel option that also put electric pumps in the gas tanks. I think these pumps are what the previous posters are referring to
