Well, Barry already answered the question with the same information i would have given....there is something cool about an old 59 3/4 ton 4x4 in a dark green, that i like...just dreaming again, sorry....ill just have to stumble on one someday and build it....the problem is, over here, there arent many of them sittin around at all, however i did find a 56 truck (like a ton and a half) up by mandan, nd, so ill have to go up and see the relatives next summer and then take a lil trip over and see what the story is on it...its been sittin for a while, so either no one knows about it, or they want way to much for it......up there though, the effies are sittin around all over because thats not a big hot rod/stock rebuild area
no, im sure its nothing fancy, just an old grain truck or something, but still, a 56 is a 56, and i can turn it into anything i want......i havent gone in and looked at it to even see what kinda condition its in
where u from? i got relatives and friends all over that area, from new salem to mandan, and down to solen...all over that area
I ran into a lot of the kind of people you're talking about. They're in their eighties, using a walker and coughing up lung but they're going to restore the dozen or more hulks you have been watching for the last ten years slowing rotting into the ground.
I was in a bone yard last week that had two M-H '48-50 F-6s. They looked pretty complete although one had a overhead valve engine. The owner was a real gem. When you asked about a part he asked what you thought it was worth, I asked him to give me an idea of what he wanted. He asked what I thought it was worth again so I would tell him $10 (hey if you can't tell me what you want for it I'm going to start as low as I can) he would then get upset and tell me he didn't have many more left and they aren't making anymore, DUH!! the parts he had weren't going to last forever either. Finally, after listening to him tell me his life story, he would come around with some inflated price and wouldn't budge. At least he wasn't going to restore everything in his yard.
I have emailed a person down in Indiana who has a '52 and a '48-50 and there is another person up north of me in northern Wisconsin who has a '48-50. I have emailed the person in northern Wisconsin a few times and have been meaning to stop by and check out his truck when he gets a chance.
There's a guy in town who has a 48-52 marmon-herrington panel truck, I can't remember if its a just a panel or a ranger, but I'm wanting to say ranger. He originally bought and was going to swap the running gear, but he found out what it was. I'll make sure to take a few pics next time I'm over there, he's a good guy and has every intention to restore it. -4speed
My uncle has a '56 F100 sitting in one of his shops on his farm. Been sitting inside for 25+years, ever since I can remember. Original with 6 cyl. and 3 speed. He used to spray with it. I think he always kept it inside. I don't think he is the original owner. His son will probably want it.
I grew up in southwestern North Dakota, the Bowman-Scranton area. I currently reside in southern Oregon.
Bob, I met a junkyard owner like that in northern California. Had a big ol' F8 Marmon Herrrington, but it wasn't his. He actually asked me for $25 to walk his yard. I said I just needed some choke and throttle cables, w/ ***** for a military vehicle that I 'm working on. He said fine, as long as I buy something. Strange old duck.
Fourspeed,
Years ago someone was advertising (in Hemmings) a '48-'50 panel w/ a big V8 and modern running gear but claimed to have original M-H gear for it. Wanted a fortune and wouldn't part it out.
