I ran a breather cap in the valve cover on my aftermarket 4 barrel intake with no problems, you should be okay going that route.

The PCV valve stands for "positive" crankcase ventilation, that is, it causes a measured amount of air to be drawn thru the engine to carry off condensation and blowby gases. That's a very good thing for keeping your engine clean(er) and dry(er). You could get a carb spacer with a built-in port for your PCV system, or likely your carb has a port that you could tap into?

Most carbs have a large port on the back side that is specifically made for the PCV line. If you disable the PCV your engine will rapidly sludge up inside. Before the PCV they had road draft tubes to draw air thru the engine. If no air is drawn thru the engine or you just use breathers you will have a real mess...
