351 Crank

I usually hang out in the I6 forum
but i am building a 351W for my old ranger.
The engine is an HO from an 87 F250 with a C6
So far i have had
-block bored 30 over with a torque plate
-new speed pro pistons
-block painted old ford blue
-Clevite main and cam racing bearings.
Now i am going to order a ford Racing Cam with 305/310 dur. 518 lift.
i plan on going with a set of GT 40P heads from a free 302 from my friend
an edelbrock Victor Jr. intake and 750cfm carb and Mallory dizzy and ign.

Now i plan on using a T5 tranny(if it will hold) will the crank i have accept a pilot bearing and a flywheel?

Also how much power do ya'll predict?
I say around 450 at 6500

yes

I think 450 would be optimistic.

Any particular reason why your using a victor jr?

Scroll down in the Starsky & Hutch thread. I listed all the stuff used on the engines for the movie. They claim 435 horse. Note the heads and manifolds used. No cam specs, but that ain't rocket science. 9.7:1 CR.

Compare to what you're doing and modify as you wish.

T-5 max torque is 305 if you get the right one. You may want to shop further for the trans.

Good luck.

From: Destin/Ft. Walton Beach,
I had a 94 Mustang Cobra T5 behind a 347 stroker in a 65 F100. The Cobra T5 World Class is the strongest T5 you could get. I hit 3rd one day on the way to work, and nailed the gas.......BANG........No more T5. I ended up going to a built C5/C4, and destroyed IT after about 6 months. Finally went to a built AOD. Forget what you hear bad about these transmissions. A built AOD is a kick butt transmission. Ran it for a year before I installed a fairly stock 302 and sold the truck. A friend of mine has it now, and the AOD is still going strong.
P.S. The Victor jr. intake and the GT40P heads are a mismatch. Performance is all about putting the right parts together, so that everything works in synch. The "P" heads have small valves and small ports. This promotes good port velocity at lower rpm's. They work best on a smaller cube engine, such as a 302. The Victor manifold is a single plane, and is made to flow a lot of air, and at high rpm's. The GT40 P heads are a step up from the stock 302 head, but are pretty weak on a 351. You will also have to drill them out to use the larger (then 302) 351 head bolts. With that combo, I would use a set of AFR heads. Even a set of original GT40 cast irong heads like were used in the Lightning trucks would be better then the "P" heads. A better all around intake is the Weiand Stealth. Good low rpm's, and makes power up to 7 grand. Higher then you're going to spin that 351 most likely.

Ok
so i should get a dual plane. I talked to the edelbrock people at the Mustang 40th show and they recomended that to me. I might just pop for aftermarket heads as this is a slow build.
I really like Manual tranny's what could i use inplace of a T5 that would hold up?
And i'm 16 and don't know everything so i'm open to suggestions on what parts i should get.

Is this a street or strip deal?

You could get a eagle crank 3.85" stroke that would put you at 393 with a .030 overbore - $260

Have your stock 351w rods prepped or go with an aftermarket set - prices vary

If you use flattop 302 pistons to do this stroker kit that would put your compression ratio right aroun 11:1, so unless this is drag only a set of dished would be required.

Get your hands on the best flowing heads you can afford, the generic answer, AFR are a proven cylinder head.

You could probably use that single plane intake with this combo vs the other, I don't think stock P heads would work for what your after. I like the weiand stealth intakes...period. Street strip

Once you've determined the engine combo, tranny you plan to use, and rear gear ratio, then call a reputable company and discuss camshafts, the cam ties everything together, so get it last.

The combo I mentioned should give you every bit of what your after and more.

Or

Leave it stock stroke, get the best heads you can possibly afford, do what it takes to get your compression ratio healthy, figure out the rest of the drivetrain and lastly, get a camshaft to tie it all together.

From: Destin/Ft. Walton Beach,
A good 5 speed, would be the TREMEC TKO, and a good 6 speed, is the TREMEC T-56. Even the most light duty TKO will handle over 400 lbs of torque. The T-56 can be found in Vipers, and other performance cars. These transmissions need some creative engineering, to use them in a bench seat Ford truck. I've done it, so it isn't that tough. lol
Yeah, a good set of heads, matched to the intake and the cam, is what makes or breaks a good engine. To a lesser extent but still important, is the exhaust system and ignition system. A stock 5.0 Mustang engine, with AFR heads, Stealth intake, a 625 cfm Road Demon carb, tri-Y headers, 1.7 ratio roller rockers, and everythng else bone stock, will make a little over 400 horsepower. This is with the stock roller cam found in the Mustang GT. That shows you how important it is to match up your parts. If you can make 400 on a fairly stock 302(405 hp and 380 Lb/ft torque to be exact), imagine what you can do with these parts on a 351, with a little hotter cam.

ya i can imagine.
For hedders i'm trying to find full length large diameter hedders.
So far i can only find shorty's
I plan on running 2.5" pipes off the collectors into a crossover and have them come out at a 45 right before the rear tires with a nice expensive 3" tip.
should give it a nice thump on both sides.
