I've been looking to upgrade my mid-size suv to possibly a crew cab super duty mainly cuz they are beautiful trucks... but I do have one question about the audio: Does anyone know if two 12" subs will fit in any sort of custom box beneath the rear seat of a late model crew cab? I searched the forum and didn't see any mention of it... I'd like to be able to keep the rear seats down with the subs beneath.. Just wondering if anyone has seen or heard of this. Since I'm an audiophile, whatever next vehicle I get must have room for the thumpin'.
Well you said it, custom box, that is the only route if you want 2 12s, I have seen and heard a lot of 10 installs, there is a company that makes a box for 4 10s out of fiberglass that fits behind the seat, but it is big bucks for that one.
I just had a custom enclosure built for my 05 cc ps 4x I wanted 2 12's but after measuring and configuring all we could fit is 3 8's in a full lenght enclosure. It is very hard to get a decent speaker to fit in the small depth available behind the seats.
I made a fiberglass box that replaces my center console, the only reason I used the 15s was because I had them, If I was buying new subs I would have done 12s, It took me 6 gallons of resin, and 1 gallon of bondo to smooth it out perfect. Then I had it covered in 1/4 foam and leather to match my stock seats.
I Am only running them off a JL 250 mono amp, and I still have the gain turned about halfway down, A friend of mine was messing with the amp last night he turned it up and my driverside window started to resonate pretty bad, and the rearveiw mirror looked like it was going to jump off the windshield.
