2005 F350 Steering/braking Problems
I'm new to the site and would like to ask you guys a question(s). First of all, I have a 2005 F350 6.0 now with about 3500 miles. About a week after purchasing the truck, I noticed my power steering fluid was low (not touching the bottom of the dipstick) so I took it to the dealership and they topped it off to a level greater than the "full cold" level . I didn't notice until I got back home and checked for myself. I took it back to the dealer and they got it back to the right level.
Ever since then, I can feel a slight resistance in the steering wheel that wasn't there before, especially at idle engine speed with slight steering adjustments and with engine temp. warmed up. I also had to add more power steering fluid this past week, but I cannot see a leak anywhere in the system. Also as of lately, my brake pedal travel has increased quite a bit when coming to a stop. I am not sure if this indirectly relates to the power steering problem.
Anyone got any ideas?

These trucks use a Hydro Booster setup instead of vacuum brake assist.. No vacuum with a diesel.. Both the power steering 'AND' power brakes use power steering pump pressure/fluid for assist.. Mine on my 03 leaked and would drip from the booster onto the inner fender insulation, and onto the frame.. If the obvious locations are dry, put your hand under the hydro booster (behind the master cylinder) and check for seepage.. Also be careful what you fill the system with.. It could affect the performance of both systems.. Also check for leakage into the inside cabin/firewall area..
Have Ford take another peek.. And, let us know what the cause/repair was for future reference..
Also, my 05 has a 'creaking' vib when turning the wheel at idle 'or' cruise speeds that's intermittent.. Couple of other members have had this issue as well.. Also seems to be temp sensitve.. It's at the dealer as we speak for a running gear howl, trans 2-3 upshift clunk, and the steering concern..

Turns out, air got into the system due to the higher than normal fluid level. In the end, it cost me 49.95 for labor to get a pint of P/S fluid sucked out and purge the air out of the system (basically turn the wheel back and forth). You better believe I'm going after the original dealer for overfilling that fluid!
I guess the guys that do the dealer prep think more is better.

Why did you get charged for what seems to be work covered under your warranty?? The dealerships you took your truck to were both Ford, right??

Both were Ford dealers. The 2nd dealer said the original dealer overfilled the level and therefore the 2nd dealer could not charge Ford for warranty work. So now it is a pain in my butt and have to contact my original dealer personally. So far, I have not been impressed with the service folks at these dealers. I had a GMC before this and they treated their customers much better. I'll let you all know when I get my $50 back.
