I have a 2004 F250 CC with 8 foot bed. I am looking to purchase a bed cover that is split in the middle. This will allow me to open the rear portion of the cover and lay it on the front portion or open the front portion of the cover and lay it on the rear cover. The typical covers raise about four feet and since I use a hoist to load 250 pound items into my pickup I must have the cover fully open.
I looked at Fold-a-Cover but I would need to eliminate my bedrail covers to attach and I prefer to keep them to protect the bedrails.
Any suggestions?
Fold-A-Cover and Advance Covers are the same product...basically. Both made here in Grand Rapids, MI by two guys that used to be in business together. I dont think you have to remove the bed rail protectors for the Fold-A-Cover. I have an Advance Cover on my 04 SD and didnt remove any of the protective covers and it works great. No drilling into the metal either. I'd be happy to take pictures and post them tomorrow when it's daylight out again so you can see for your self. I love my Advance Cover.
I have Fold-A-Cover, and you don't remove the bed rails. It is four sections, three fold forward, one folds to the rear. Fits nice, looks good.

Thanks for the reply. I was told that you had to have a clean rail because the edges have an adhesive that attaches the cover rail to the metal bed rail.
Is this true or does it bolt thru the bed rail?
If it does not can you bolt it?
I don't recall if it had sealing tape, or not on the rails. Its not gauranteed to be waterproof, but its as close as you can get to it. It attaches through the stake pockets, just have to make a hole in the plastic knock out for the stake pocket. Cover can be removed easily, just one attachment point, and rails can be left in place.

The seals for the Advance Cover are attached to the plastic bed rail covers with very small screws. There are NO permanent side rails with the Advance Cover. All attachment is done via clamping hardware.
The adhesive won't stick to the plastice, so they supply the short self tapping screws to attach the rubber seal to the rail cover. Seems to work good and you can't even notice the screws.
So far I am very happy with my Advance Cover. The main differences between Fold-A-Cover and Advance Cover are :
You can lock or unlock the Advance cover and do not need to use a key to open it if it is unlocked. The Fold-A-Cover requires a key to open it all the time.
The Fold-A-Cover does use "side rails" which stay on the bed even if you temporarily remove the cover.
You cannot drive with the front section of the cover folded open. You can fold the back three sections onto the front section and drive with it folded.
Installed an Advance Cover on my 05 350 last week. The only thing I would add to dswegr's post is that it has 2 rubber seals running down the sides, one which is attached with both adhesive and the screws (which can put under the top so they are not exposed) and another seal that fits within the bed rail grooves between the first seal and the bed. It gives another barrier to prevent water penetration.
Have not been through a big rain since I installed it, so can't comment on the water tightness yet. From the looks of it and other folks comments, it should do very well.
I also have the K cover folding cover and still have my bed rails. As a matter a fact, I did not want to screw into the bed rails, and I wanted to keep the cover lower, so I installed the cover right on the bed rail covers. I did not use the weather stripping that came with the cover. Here is a picture of my cover on my truck.
I had the Advance Cover put on mine in August and drove in a blinding rainstorm for 30 minutes. The cover kept the bed pretty dry. The only water that got in was from the bottom front of the bed.
My Advance Cover keeps most of the water out. I went to Lowes and bought a weather strip kit to improve the seal across the front of the bed. I transport a lot of computer equipment in my truck. I keep most stuff in Rubbermaid containers as an extra precaution. Great cover.
