My truck is a 99 4x4 off road 3.0 flex fuel. when I go to low range in 4x4 the abs light comes on, it dosen't come on in high range. can you guys help find the problem?
I'm trying to think of what might be a common culprit between the 4WABS circuit and the 4x4 High/Low circuit, and three things come to mind:
(1) the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) located on the rear differential, which on 4x4 systems provides vehicle speed data directly to the 4WABS module (before said data even gets to the PCM). This same data is used by the 4x4 system when engaging/disengaging 4WD;
(2) the acceleration (G-Force) sensor which on 4x4 systems provides the 4WABS module with important deceleration information, and also with the data necessary for ABS to function properly in 4WD;
(3) the 4WABS module itself, based on what is described in #s 1 & 2 above.
I don't know what the problem might be. As long as it only happens in 4L, and stops when you leave 4L, consider it a Ford electronic gremlin and hope it doesn't lead to anything worse.
