After putting a deposit down on a 98 F-150 I learn that in 99 these trucks with the 5.4L got a kick in the butt to the tune of 30 hp more. Which is why a 99 that I test drove had a bit more pep than the 98 I bought.
What kind of mods short of redoing the shortblock will improve HP & Torque across the board. I have no problem with major mechanical work (heads etc)
This is a daily driver 4x4 with occasional 6000lb trailer duty so I don't want to kill low end torque.
I read about PI heads, cams & intakes but also see that the CC chambers are different sizes too which will alter my CR. Could a home port job on a set of non PI heads make a difference without the CR change??? Or is there an ideal PI head swap that would work best for me??
I'm open to all ideas especially low buck options by swapping parts off of newer model trucks.
A DiabloSport Predator Programmer, and Lower rearend gears will help. Also, a freeflowing intake (throttlebody, air intake) and exhaust (headers, Flowmaster, highflow cats), will also help.
If you don't mind the work. 99 and newer PI heads will help. I plan on doing that with my 4.6. Porting and polishing will help also. I believe you will also need the PI intake. Here is a how to site I just found. http://home.comcast.net/~therazy/HomePage.html
Chip, Intake, underdrive pullies, If you go with exhuast be careful and don't go with to big of a tube or you will kill your low end.
Ofcourse you can always get a Super Charger!
