Front axle question

I have a 51 F1 1/2 ton that I am wanting to lower within a budget. On the front axle I have been reading and it looks like the best option is sending it to one of the places that will modify it to have a drop. I was wondering though. A friend of mine that is pretty knowledgable about older cars and trucks says he thinks that the 3/4 ton ford pickups in the 48-52 range had a different front axle than the 1/2 tons that had about a 4 inch drop. I have looked all over to try to find info out on this and I have never found anything about it. I am thinking it is probably the same axle as the 1/2 ton, but I wondered if anyone on here could tell me for sure. Thanks

THe axle is exactly the same on the F-1, F-2, F-3 models for 48-52. They use the same spindles also. It's the backing plates and brake parts that make the difference in the different models.

Thanks for clarifying, I thought I would have seen some mention somewhere of this as much as I have been researching it lately. Figured I could not get that lucky and out that cheaply. lol

they are the same except the leafs are diffrent, and the f2 and up ususally came with an 8 bolt patter hub. you can get a brand new one from midfifty thats been dropped 3" or 4", and its probaly safter then having one modified

There are several companies that have the front axle Classic performance products has it also. I would Like to find out what they build the axles to for specification both camber and caster. The Heat and bend dropped axle does have one advantage if you want a deeper wheel, the front axle is 1.5" narrower.
