coil hookup

ok so i am going to install my new coil and am going to run a new hot wire to it with a 1.2 ohm resistor in the line my problem is i can't figure out where the coil negative wire hooks into but i did notice there were 12volts present on the neg side of the coil is this normal

Well the neg. side would goto a Tach, or in my case, I have installed pertronix, it has a postive and negative wire, each going on the respective parts of the coil. DONT ground the coil. No spark will result.

The negative side of the coil goes to the points or electronic ignition box. For electronic ignition schematics check with the galleries for user BB.

so being that i am not using the stock electronic ignition can i leave the old coil negative wire coming off the coil and going into the ignition box off and run the neg side right to my new cranes cams points conversion kit.

You can leave the stock wire off. Follow the crane instructions for hookup.
