Identity Crisis

Ok here goes everything I have found:

Under oil filter: 6A5 no more (..) under 6

Front of block casted: 105 or mirrored 501

Head

Valve covers have 5 bolts

Under valve cover: 5M15

Next to spark plug: D2TEAA

Circle next to plug: 1 9 7 5 3 in that order, "Wierd"?

Intake: D5TE-9425-K8

Could not find any numbers on the crank
Motor mounts are bolted on by 2 bolts, not covering any freeze plugs

Can someone decifer all this and tell me year and make of motor?
pistons are out so cant measure stroke.

Thank You
Todd

What letters/numbers on the block do you see where the starter would go, then a short code below that?

C8AE-6A338-A-B
FORD

rod:
D.A.B.
11-75 DD PC
C6AE-6211-S-T
FORD
are these the original bearings?

found on intake: 8C28

found on heads: 203

found on crank(from front to back): counter weight #1 - 33, #3 - 2TA on one side and 1 on other side.

piston diam.: is 4"

Somebody please help¡! Need year and size.

Todd

302/351w would have 6 valve cover bolts and a casting number near the starter location on the block...hmmm

Can you measure the stroke?

Try this link, it takes some looking over to find anything but maybe it would help:

Any chance you could post some pictures?

This link has a simillar intake code, except where you have an "8" they use a "B".

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...x.php/t-130025

The 390 used a 4.005 bore according to that link.

Hope that helps

aauurrgghh

lI never knew identifying a motor was so difficult.

more accurate on cylinder measurements with tape of course would be 4 3/64ths

push rods: 9 1/2" no numbers

harmonic balancer: BTC D5TE-DA

I am measuring the pistons with a tape measure so it is difficult to get exact.

Yes I will be able to post pictures later, wife has dig cam and is out of town until tomorrow.

And i know it is either a 360 or 390. valve covers have 5 bolts.

C8 and C6 could mean 1968 or 1966

D5 could mean 1975

If you now its either a 360 or 390 then your not too far from knowing what it is, they both use the same bore but the stroke differs, thats easy enough to check:

360 ---- 3.50" stroke
390 ---- 3.78" stroke

Do the FE engines list the casting number for the heads on the bottom, on the SBF the casting number is on the bottom side of the head or under the intake port, that might get you closer to the year of the block.

do you have reason to believe it is not the original motor?

How about some info on the truck? what year is it?

Your valve cover bolt description matches that of an FE motor.......which makes it like you said, most likely a 360 or 390, if its a 70's truck, and a 4x4 I would bet 360.

The date code 6A5 with two dots under the 6 means it's a 76/Jan/5th date code. The two dots under the first digit 6 represent a 70's block casting. I'm late for work so I can help more later tonight! G.

It's a rebuilt 360...

2TA is a 68 and newer 360 crank.
D2TEAA heads are 72 and newer heads with hardened seats.
D5TE on manifold is a 75 truck version.

Pistons are at 4.00 and I would guess your bore on the block is 4.05, unless there is a "030" or "060" on the top of the pistons...
