Surely somebody around here has replaced the radiator on their Aerostar. I've got a 92 shortie with 223k miles and have only had to do very minimal repairs. I'm suddenly leaking a lot from the bottom of the radiator and thinking I should just go for it.
(I did read on somebody's post that in cold weather (it just recently dipped below freezing down here in Houston) that you'll get some leaking from the cooling system if you park outdoors, which I do...)
Yes, with the composit radiators you can get a leak with weather change from very cold to warm, but with that many miles you may want to think of a replacement. Check your hoses at the same time. Wish you were closer to Oregon, I have a new one still in the box do to a mistake on ordering I got 2 of them for my 90.
see if you can isolate the leak, colud be a hose leak, or cap leak from loss of compression from the little spring in the cap. easy to replace. if it is the radiator, then decide if it is something you can do.i did mine last year (91 aerostar) new one from auto zone was 110$ i think. its a tight fit,but can be done in a couple hours. rick
If it is the radiator, replacing it is easy, I did mine a few months ago, after losing a few nights sleep, I read the manual a few times, reviewed some of the postings here and went at it, there were no real hard things about it, Make sure you are doing this over an area you don't mind spilling anti-freeze over as you will make a mess as you start removing the hoses. You will be dripping trany fluid as well. After undoing the trany lines, I put plastic over them to keep them from getting dirt in them. Once all the lines and hoses are off, simply undo the two bolts holding it in place and lift. Here you will probably spill what ever is in the radiator so have plenty of rags on hand. Installing it is the reverse.
After installing it, you will probably have to retighten the hoses a few weeks later, because for some reason, they start to leak.
